The granite Hand-Plane Range

ormer

The Ormer is a local delicacy in Guernsey and the surrounding Channel Islands. Only allowed to be harvested in tides around new and full moons for the first four months of the year, its collection is strictly controlled to preserve stocks. They are found under rocks in the shallow waters surrounding the islands living in shells that contain a beautiful mother of pearl interior. The unique shape of the shell provides inspiration for the Granitesurf Ormer Hand-Plane except that this Guernsey delicacy can be used at all times of the year whatever the state of the tides or moon. As long as there are waves!

The softer more rounded shape of the Ormer Hand-Plane creates a versatile profile that is maneuverable and fast in a wide range of conditions. The wide planing surface provides maximum lift and the drawn in pin-tail offers stability and a subtlety of turning angles in the control of the hand-plane. The rails are blended from a full round at the nose through to a hard release at the rear and the full concave runs the length of the underside providing lift. A delicacy in hand-planes the refined soul of the Granitesurf Ormer is exhilarating to use and like the local gastropod mollusk a rare treat to own.

beanjar

Bean Jar is a local dish of the Channel Islands of Guernsey. The traditional Guernsey Bean Jar has been part of island life for centuries and in the past bakers used to let islanders put their prepared bean jars into the warm ovens overnight once they had finished baking the bread. It is a cassoulet style bean dish traditionally using haricot and butter beans in the ingredients. A warming soup it tastes great after a hard morning or afternoon in the surf catching waves and body-surfing with a Granitesurf Hand-Plane!

The Beanjar Hand-Plane has a pulled in pointed nose and subtle rocker to give a precise amount of control and reduce the splash in the waves. Fully rounded smooth rails at the front are blended into a hard edge at the rear for maximum water release. The larger planing surface under the hand provides maximum lift and the fully rounded tail gives smooth turns and hold in steeper, hollow wave faces. A full concave runs the length of the underside providing further lift and creating a fast hand-plane with lots of speed down the line. Hand crafted and finished to perfection like a tasty Guernsey Bean Jar the Granitesurf Beanjar Hand-Plane provides a warm, enriching connection with the sea and performs in all conditions.

hanois

Built in 1862 Les Hanois Lighthouse has protected ships from the rugged rocks and dangerous reefs at the South-Western end of Guernsey for generations. With a difference of 10m between high and low tides the Channel Islands have one of the greatest tidal ranges in the world. Every six hours the landscape is transformed from seas crashing against high sea-walls and cliffs to lapping over rocky landscapes and outcrops of jagged rocks and exposed reefs. It is a beautiful rugged scene that is played out by the rising and falling tides every day. Les Hanois Lighthouse guides ships safely in all weathers and stands as a proud beacon to amazing engineering and its resistance to weathering storms and harsh climates. The same swells that hit Les Hanois Lighthouse also roll into the bays and beaches around the Guernsey coastline providing the perfect playground for body-surfing the waves.

The Granitesurf Hanois Hand-Plane is the largest in the range. Its extra length providing a large planing surface for slow, mushy days as well as bigger, cleaner swells. Generally suited to more experienced body-surfers the profile and full concave give maximum lift with speed and power. Based on the outline of the Granite Hand-Plane it is its bigger brother! With a full nose, a large planing surface and a wide diamond tail this hand-plane is built to provide fun in a wide range of waves. Longer or taller than any other Granitesurf Hand-Plane this model will light up any session!
